ANTARCTIC CONVERGENCE Mug

The Antarctic Convergence is a marine belt or current encircling Antarctica, varying in latitude roughly between 55 and 62degrees south. Cold, northward-flowing Antarctic waters meet the relatively warmer waters of the sub-Antarctic. Cold Antarctic waters predominantly sink beneath the warmer waters. The mixing and upwelling create a zone very high in marine productivity, especially for Antarctic krill.
